Tips for Travel During the Covid-19 Pandemic

While we want to make sure YOU stay safe while traveling in Ecuador and beyond, we also want to keep the people you are visiting safe as well. While the vast majority of Ecuadorians working in tourism are vaccinated, a few people, including tribal nations in Ecuador, are not vaccinated. This is a similar case for other Andean Nations. We want to protect indigenous elders to the maximum extent possible. Please ask before you book your travel about the vaccination status of the community you will be visiting and take every precaution to avoid bringing this deadly virus with you.

  • Make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date.
  • If possible in your state, register for a virtual vaccination card. While this may not be recognized overseas, it is a safer way to carry proof of vaccination than a paper card alone.
  • Check for updated information for travel and testing to the country where you are going (links provided below).
  • Make an appointment for a PCR test for the appropriate amount of time before you travel. If you are unsure of the information from the links below, contact the airline. They are the ones that have to enforce the new rules and will be up-to-date on the latest information.
  • Purchase an N-95 mask for travel. These provide the best protection. The second best protection is a surgical mask. We would like to recommend PureMSK. While they are more expensive, they are extremely lightweight, can be purchased by size, fit very well, and are comfortable to wear. The third best protection is a cloth mask.
  • Sanitize and wash hands regularly
  • Maintain social distance when possible. If not possible, make sure you have your N-95 mask available. Second best, double masking.
