Not Your Average American is built on communication between travelers, guides, and tourism professionals. Our relationships are based on mutual respect and trust. However, we also need to lay out some ground rules and explain what you should expect when using our website, podcast, consulting services, and member-only content.

Travel Terms and Conditions

Not Your Average American, LLC is based in Portland, Oregon. We help connect travelers with meaningful, often underrepresented experiences across South America. While we do not operate as a traditional travel agency, we act as a connector and consultant, offering curated recommendations and referrals to local guides, operators, and service providers.

We may earn a commission when you book travel through one of our trusted partners. These commissions help fund the time we invest in building relationships with local businesses—often small enterprises without large marketing budgets—and support our ability to offer consulting services to both travelers and tourism providers.

We hold a business license in the State of Oregon, which does not require a Seller of Travel certification.

For Clients Living in California, Florida, Hawaii, or Washington

Not Your Average American, LLC is not a registered seller of travel in California, Florida, Hawaii, or Washington. If you live in one of these states, please let us know before booking. In most cases, we will direct you to book directly with the vendor through a platform such as WeTravel, which allows travelers to pay international tourism providers directly.

Cancellations and Refunds

Each tourism partner we work with has their own cancellation and refund policy. Generally, trips require a deposit and full payment 30 to 45 days before departure. Refunds are not guaranteed.

However, we will do our best to advocate for a fair outcome if a trip is canceled for reasons beyond anyone’s control. We believe both our travelers and partners operate in good faith and will work with all parties to find an equitable solution when possible.

We strongly encourage all travelers to purchase comprehensive travel insurance to protect against unforeseen events or cancellations.

Travel Risks

All travel carries inherent risks. When you book a trip or use travel-related information from our website or podcast, you accept personal responsibility for your decisions and actions. We strive to provide accurate information and helpful guidance, but cannot guarantee a risk-free experience.

We encourage you to ask questions, do your own research, and contact us with any concerns before booking.

Privacy and Data Sharing for Travel Services

To help book your trip or deliver services, we or our partners may collect and share necessary personal information. This may include your name, contact details, dietary preferences, or health information required by the tourism provider.

By submitting your personal information, you consent to our collection and limited sharing of that data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Website and Podcast Terms and Conditions

Not Your Average American, LLC produces content through our website, podcast, newsletter, and social media channels. This content is offered for personal use only.
